Complete Guide to RealEstateAgent Schema Markup

RealEstateAgent is the LocalBusiness subtype for real estate brokerages, agencies and individual agents with an office. Because it's a LocalBusiness, Google reads it for local business results: name and address are required, and telephone, url, geo, openingHoursSpecification and priceRange are recommended. priceRange describes the business's own prices, such as its fees, not the prices of the homes it lists.

The address must be an office clients can visit. An agent who works from home without a public office has little to gain from local business markup and shouldn't publish a home address to get it. A brokerage with several offices describes each one on its own page, with its own address and phone number.

areaServed isn't one of the properties Google's local business documentation lists, but it's the schema.org way to state the neighborhoods, cities or regions the agency covers, as a place name, a City or AdministrativeArea, or a GeoShape. Keep it to the areas you actually serve; a list of every town in the state says nothing.

The listings themselves are separate from the agency. schema.org has a RealEstateListing type, a WebPage subtype for a page that offers a property, and types such as SingleFamilyResidence, House and Apartment for the property itself, with an Offer for the price. Google doesn't document a rich result for real estate listings, so that markup describes the listing without changing how it appears in search.

Agencies often collect client testimonials. Google's review snippet guidelines don't allow a local business to show star ratings from reviews about itself that it hosts on its own site, so leave aggregateRating out of the agency's markup even when the testimonials are real.
