Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2025
Schema.biz is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect (very little), what data our tools access (none — everything stays in your browser), and how we handle analytics and advertising.
The Key Point: Your Data Stays in Your Browser
All Schema.biz tools — JSON-LD generators, validators, database designers, API tools, and everything else — run 100% client-side in your web browser using JavaScript. No data you enter into any tool is ever transmitted to our servers or any third party. Your SQL schemas, markup code, API specs, and all other input remain entirely on your device.
This is not just a policy choice — it is an architectural one. Our tools are static web applications with no backend processing. There is no server endpoint that receives your tool input, no database that stores it, and no API call that transmits it. You can verify this at any time by opening your browser's developer tools (Network tab) while using any tool.
What We Do Collect
Privacy-Friendly Analytics
We use privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible Analytics and/or Cloudflare Web Analytics) to understand aggregate usage patterns — which pages are visited, which tools are most popular, and where visitors come from. These analytics services:
- Do not use cookies
- Do not collect personal data or personally identifiable information
- Do not track individual users across sessions or websites
- Are fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR without requiring cookie consent banners
- Collect only aggregate data: page URLs, referral sources, browser type, country (from IP, which is discarded and never stored), and screen size
We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other tracking-based analytics service.
Advertising
Schema.biz displays advertisements to support free tool development. Our ad partners may use cookies for ad delivery and performance measurement. These cookies are managed by the ad network, not by Schema.biz. Specifically:
- Ad network cookies are used solely for ad delivery, frequency capping, and aggregate performance reporting
- Ad networks do not have access to any data you enter into Schema.biz tools
- You can opt out of personalized advertising through your browser settings or through the ad network's opt-out mechanisms
- We select ad partners that comply with applicable privacy regulations
Theme Preference
We store your light/dark theme preference in a browser cookie so it persists between visits. This cookie contains only the string "light" or "dark" and is never transmitted to any analytics or advertising service.
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect, store, or process any data entered into our tools
- We do not require user accounts, email addresses, or personal information
- We do not use session recording, heatmaps, or behavioral analytics
- We do not sell, share, or transfer any user data to third parties (because we don't have any)
- We do not use fingerprinting or cross-site tracking
Cookies Summary
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| theme | Stores light/dark mode preference | 1 year |
| Ad network cookies | Ad delivery and frequency capping | Varies by ad network |
Local Browser Storage
Some of our tools may use your browser's local storage mechanisms (localStorage or sessionStorage) to save your preferences or the current state of a tool between visits. This data is stored entirely on your device by your web browser and is never transmitted to our servers. You can clear this data at any time through your browser's settings. The types of data that may be stored locally include theme preferences (such as dark mode selection), tool settings (such as preferred database dialect or schema draft version), and temporary tool state (such as a schema you were editing so you can return to it later). None of this locally stored data contains personally identifiable information, and it cannot be accessed by us or any third party.
Third-Party Services
Schema.biz uses the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare — CDN, DDoS protection, and content delivery. Cloudflare may process your IP address and request headers as part of delivering web pages and protecting the site from malicious traffic. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics — Used for aggregate, anonymous traffic measurement as described in the analytics section above.
- Google AdSense — May be used to display advertisements. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy. To opt out of personalized advertising from Google, visit Google Ad Settings.
We do not use any other third-party tracking, analytics, or data collection services beyond those listed above. We do not integrate social media widgets, embedded content from other sites, or third-party comment systems that might introduce additional tracking.
Data Security
Our website is served exclusively over HTTPS, ensuring that all communication between your browser and our servers is encrypted in transit. Because our tools process data entirely in your browser and we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, the primary security consideration is the integrity of the code delivered to your browser. We use Cloudflare's CDN and security services to protect against code injection, man-in-the-middle attacks, and other threats to the integrity of our web pages.
Data Retention
Because we do not collect personal data through our tools, there is no personal data for us to retain. The aggregate analytics data collected by Cloudflare Web Analytics is retained according to Cloudflare's data retention policies. We do not maintain any separate database, log files, or data stores containing information about our visitors or their use of our tools. If you reach out to us via email, we will retain your email message and our reply for the purpose of providing customer support. We will not use your email address for marketing purposes or share it with third parties.
Your Rights
Under various privacy regulations including the GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and the right to opt out of certain types of data processing. Because Schema.biz does not collect or store personal data through its tools, there is generally no personal data for us to provide, correct, or delete. If you have concerns about data collected by our third-party advertising partners, please refer to their respective privacy policies and opt-out mechanisms as linked above.
International Users
Schema.biz is available to users worldwide. Our website is served through Cloudflare's global CDN, which means the static files that make up our site may be served from a data center near your geographic location. Because our tools process data entirely in your browser and we do not collect personal data, there are no cross-border data transfers of user data to be concerned about.
Children's Privacy
Schema.biz is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since our tools do not collect personal information from any users, this concern is largely moot in practice. However, if you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 13 has somehow provided personal information to us (for example, via email), please contact us and we will take steps to address the situation.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, our use of third-party services, or applicable laws. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy. If we make material changes that significantly affect your rights, we will make reasonable efforts to provide prominent notice, such as a banner on our website.
